Russell Wright Cheney was born on July 27, 1945 in Longview, Texas to John Monroe and Mary Lucille Wright Cheney. Russell was retired from the Army National Guard where he served for 22 years as a staff sergeant and received the Army Achievement Medal.
He loved to read books and was a major history buff. He would watch historical movies and then ask if you wanted to know what really happened. He enjoyed studying military strategy.
Russell is survived by his sister, Alice Wingo and her husband Floyd of White Oak, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John Cheney and Buddy Cheney.
Military graveside services will be held Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Rev. Robert Wingo officiating. Visitation will be Friday, November 19, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Lakeview Funeral Home.
