

Funeral services for Sabrina Elizabeth Jett Hawthorne, 54, of White Oak will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 20 at the Longview Christian Church with her son-in-law, Christopher McLain, and her brother-in-law, Kenny Hawthorne, officiating. Graveside services will follow at Lakeview Memorial Garden, 5000 West Harrison Road in Longview.
Mrs. Hawthorne died May 17, 2010. She is preceded in death by her parents, John D. Jett and Bobbie Joyce Jett, and her father-in-law, Pete Hawthorne.
Mrs. Hawthorne was born July 18, 1955 in Colorado City, Texas. She grew up in a pipeline camp a few miles south of Colorado City, near Silver. In 1961, her parents moved to White Oak, where she attended school for 12 years, graduating in 1973. As a senior, she served as drum major of the nationally recognized White Oak Roughneck Band.
She attended the University of Texas from 1973-74, returned to East Texas and married high school sweetheart Jerry Hawthorne on July 27, 1974. She graduated from Kilgore College School of Nursing in 1978, then earned two bachelors degrees from LeTourneau University: business administration (1993) and education (2003).
Mrs. Hawthorne worked as an Emergency & Critical Care nurse for 29 years at Marshall Regional Hospital, Longview Regional, Lubbock General and Trinity Mother Frances in Tyler. While substitute teaching at White Oak High School from 1997-2000, she realized her true calling was teaching. For the past eight years, she has taught Health Science Technology, and Pharmacology & Medical Terminology at Hallsville High School. She was a member of the Texas Health Science Educators Association, and the Health Occupation Students of America Association.
Sabrina loved her family, Willie Nelson, armadillos, her three dachshunds, sweet iced tea, American Idol, spaghetti and arbitrarily rearranging the living room furniture. Her hobbies included Macramé, knitting, decoupage, needlepoint, latch & hook, scrapbooking, reading, mosaic tiles, learning, blogging about her family stories, and researching family history,
She was a member and active participant of Longview Christian Church, a sponsor and supporter of the White Oak High School Band, and a dedicated fan of White Oak Varsity Volleyball Team.
Mrs. Hawthorne is survived by her husband, Jerry Hawthorne of White Oak; daughter Skye McLain and son-in-law Christopher McLain of West Monroe, LA; son Timothy Rance Jett Hawthorne and his fiancé McCall Goodnight-Gressett of White Oak; mother-in-law Thelma Hawthorne of White Oak; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law. She is also survived by special friends, Kay and Terry Neal of Covington, GA, and Bonny and Neil Flemister of Longview, as well as countless colleagues, students and former students at White Oak and Hallsville high schools.
Pallbearers will include Aaron Benfield, Jason Benfield, Tommy Parks, Griffin Hawthorne, Brett Thompson and Chase Carrell.
