Susan Fay Coombs

Susan “Susie” Fay Coombs, age 70, passed away on Thursday, October 2nd in her home in Longview, TX. She was born on February 4th, 1955, in Elgin, North Dakota to Herbert and Viola Irene Otto Fried. Susie was raised on the family farm south of Heil, North Dakota. Susie married Jeff Coombs on December 23, 1984. They lived in Longview, TX while Jeff studied at LeTourneau College. They moved to serve in ministry at Cross Roads Range, North Dakota where Susie worked shoulder to shoulder with Jeff. They eventually moved back to Longview, TX and have lived there since 1994.

Susie gave her heart to the Lord as a child and was a devoted follower of Christ. She was baptized on April 17, 2022, at their home church, Fellowship Bible Church in Longview, TX.

She served faithfully, behind the scenes, in her church and home. Susie taught 3-year-old Sunday School, prepared dishes for many events, worked tirelessly for Projects with a Purpose, and has hosted the same small group with great joy and purpose for many years. Susie would never want to be in the spotlight and would often hide from a camera, never wanting attention. She was a servant to everyone she met and delighted in taking every opportunity to share the love of Christ through her gift of hospitality. Susie especially had such devotion to serving her church family.

Susie loved going on trail rides and skiing with Jeff, the boys and friends. Susie’s calendar often revolved around when it would be time to go to Trail Ride Family Camp, where the Coombs family and friends would gather for a week in the Badlands of North Dakota for horseback riding, camping and worship of The Lord. These trips and countless other vacations with friends and family were the focus of her scrapbooks, which are such a blessing of remembering her. Susie was unmatched in hosting others, and her heart was truly created for it, particularly when it came to cooking for and planning celebrations of any kind from birthdays and weddings to baby showers. Anyone who has met Susie would have experienced a warm and accepting welcome with unconditional love and a sea of prayers over their lives.

She is survived by her husband, Jeff Coombs, her two sons, James Coombs (wife, Nikki) and Justin Coombs, her grandchildren, Tyler, Jaden, and Payton, her sister Cindy and husband Deryl, her sister Julie and husband Doyle, her brother Eric and wife Jenny. Susie is also survived by dear ones of the Coombs family. Susie is preceded in death by her sister, Laura, her nephew, Jordan, her mom, Viola and her dad, Herbert.
