With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Tommy Joe Duke, who peacefully departed from this world on June 29, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family. Tommy was born on February 18, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, to Ernest Diaz and Vivian Duke Creel.
A man of remarkable character and indomitable spirit, Tommy's journey through life was marked by his heart of gold and quick wit. He had an extraordinary gift for making everyone he met feel seen, heard, and deeply valued, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.
Tommy's professional life began in the field of electrical sales, but it was through his own personal journey of recovery that he found his true calling. As a case manager at the HiWay 80 Rescue Mission, he dedicated his life to helping others find their way, embodying the values of compassion and service every single day. His work there was not just a job but a testament to his unwavering belief in the potential for redemption and transformation in every person.
Family was the cornerstone of Tommy's life. He leaves behind his wife, Penne Duke. Tommy's legacy continues through his daughters, Cynthia Duke and her wife Cindy Campbell, Deana Duke White and her husband Kelly White, son Doug Shook and partner Dasha Caldwell. His grandchildren, Karlie White, and Kameron White, his fiancé Braylee Burch, Carter Shook, and Sawyer Shook. They were the light of his life, each a precious reminder of his enduring spirit and love. His memory will also be cherished by countless friends that called him Pape’/Duke.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Diaz and Vivian Duke Creel, his brother Frank “Skippy” Duke, his sister Bonnie Duke, and his first wife Dean, the mother of his daughters.
Tommy's presence was a gift to all who knew him—a beacon of hope, humor, and humanity. As we celebrate his life, let us remember the laughter he shared, the wisdom he imparted, and the love he gave so freely. A Celebration of Life will be held at Hiway 80 Rescue Mission, 3117 W Marshall Ave, Longview, TX 75604, US, on July 6, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
