Berta was a wonderful teacher's aid and colleague.  The year Jennifer Timmons and I co-taught together I was impressed
with Berta's abilities. She always spoke softly in a calm but firm
voice with students.  One day at school I looked up to the balcony to see Berta slow walking  a teary,  reluctant new student to class.   The next day I saw them again.  The girl was chattering happily and skipping beside Berta.   She had a gift with children.
  She will be missed.  May she rest in peace.

I am so sorry for the loss of Berta. She was on the interview team when I was hired and she picked me even though I didn’t know what TA was lol. 

Then she was my TA (teaching assistant) for over 10 years. She was my right hand and became one of my best friends. I will miss our periodic lunch dates and chats on the phone and texts. She was such a kind and loving soul. I was very lucky to have her as a friend.

To Berta’s family,
     I’m  sorry for your loss. It’s never easy losing a loved one but I hope that memories of happier times can bring a sense of calm and peace.
      One of my memories of Berta was her beautiful, beaming smile as we greeted each other at work.

Berta,
My memories of you are very important to us. You we’re always so kind and a giving woman of God. I recall  taking the greyhound bus along with Maggie to L.A. to visit you and my brother and spend a few weeks every summer as young girls . You made us feel so special, you made it fun and went above and beyond. You would always make time to take us out shopping to Sears to get us new school clothes without hesitation . One of my favorite memories was when you bought us each our first white Go-Go knee high boots, we were so excited, jumping for joy from your thoughtfulness for the best gift ever! I will always have cherished memories of you, from being in Ed and I’s wedding, to your presence at so many of our family functions, your smile and laughter shined no matter what was happening in your life. Thank you for all you did for everyone always , especially Danny and Danny Jr . May you rest in peace in the arms of our Lord Jesus.
Sister-in-law, you will truly be missed💜

Tia Berta,  anytime I got to be around you was so special and in the moment. I loved listening to the memories you shared! Berta was always such a big part of our Huntington Drive family.  She was with us when we went to The Price is Right taping on February 26, 2019.  We didn't win, but Berta, Rosario, Celia, Cheryl, Anna (Celia's sister), Sherry, Lupe, Gil, Michael, Terry, and I had fun making memories...

Berta was dedicated to her students, even attending their milestone celebrations, like Dalia's first communion.

Berta hard at work, educating children with special needs. Her last assignment before retirement was working with children with autism.

The students participated in a retirement party for Mrs. Valdez. We are all sad to see her go. The classroom was not the same without her strict, yet fun demeanor.
