Cynthia Dawn Vasquez (“Cyndi”) was born on March 14, 1970, in Los Angeles, California, the cherished daughter of Savino Silva-Vasquez and Rebecca Jean Vasquez, and the beloved younger sister of Jamiee Lyn Vasquez, who preceded her in death.
Cyndi spent the majority of her early years in Highland Park, Ca., where she formed some of the strongest, life-long friendships. Some of her fondest childhood memories were of time spent with her big Cousin Maria and the Wolf Family, her Godmother Sue and her daughters Kimberly and Jennifer and the Silva-Vasquez Family in Oxnard, Ca.
She was a very shy & quiet child but always looked to her big sister Jamiee who helped break her out of her shell. In 1987, Cyndi moved to Eagle Rock, Ca with her mother, sister, and niece Elizabeth. After the devasting loss of her sister Jamiee to cancer in1988, and being only a teenager herself, she jumped right into the mother's role and became a steady presence for Elizabeth who was only 5 years old, caring for her as if she were her very own. Known affectionately as “Droopy” among friends for her serious demeanor, Cyndi’s radiant smile and bold spirit told another story — she was a wildflower, full of life and color. She pursued several interests as a young adult including studies to become a paralegal assistant and a nail technician, always sporting her signature extra-long, neon-colored nails, long hair, and bold lips. Cyndi loved to be in the company of her many friends and cousins, getting all dressed up to go dancing at nightclubs, parties, concerts and other adventures. She welcomed her first child Niko (31) in 1994 and would go on to be the proud mother of 6 more children Cheyenne (30), Cecily (27), Lauren (22), Levi (20), Nehemiah (18) and Gamiel (17), all who were the absolute center of her world.
After her diagnosis of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in 2010, she never took a day of her life for granted and embraced each day with gratitude and positivity. She waited 14 years on the transplant list before finally receiving the call that a donor was available, and she would be receiving the gift of a Double-Lung transplant on March 12, 2024; two days before her 54th birthday. The risks were great but the chance at a new life was greater and her Faith in God carried her through a successful surgery. In the months following her surgery she was able to witness the birth of her first granddaughter Delylah who she so patiently waited (and begged) for. “Lylah” was her grandma’s pride and joy! She even reconnected with an old flame, Leo Cienfuegos. Leo never left her side, often sleeping at her hospital bedside day after day for the months she was hospitalized before her passing. In a final act of his undying love and devotion to her, Leo asked the hospital Chaplin to marry the two in a private ceremony on November 21, 2025. Cynthia passed peacefully on November 30, 2025 surrounded by her family, who held her hand as she took her last breath. Despite a long and hard battle post-surgery, Cynthia’s light never dimmed. She continued to smile, laugh and love through all that she endured. Her legacy is one of resilience, devotion, and joy. She will be remembered for her fierce love for her family, unwaivering faith, and the way her laugh and smile lit up any room she entered. Our beloved Cyndi is a testimony of strength, and a Mother's love and will live in us all forever. Until we meet again...
