Josefina was known as many things to many people. She was a loved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. To family and friends who knew her best, Josefina will be remembered as a very kindhearted and sweet person.
Josefina was born on September 20, 1940 in San Lorenzo, a small town outside of Culiacan, Sinaloa. She was the daughter of Rosario Meza and Jose Ochoa. Josefina was raised by her mother and grandmother in San Lorenzo.
While growing up, Josefina was closest to her cousins Maria de Jesus and Rosario. Later in life, she became friends with Maggie Cantu, Delfina Casas, Georgina Stephens and Amparo Delgado.
Josefina worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Josefina was blessed with three children; two beautiful daughters, Rocio and Maricela, and one loving son, Raul "Huero". Another blessing for Josefina was the gift of her two grandchildren Cynthia and Alex, and her great-grandson, Lorenzo.
Josefina enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite passion was gardening. She also enjoyed thrifting and spending time with her family and friends. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes, like putting together jigsaw puzzles and doing sudoku alone, but was also willing to share her interests with others. She particularly enjoyed watching her telenovelas, but also enjoyed comedies like Mr. Bean and Jackass.
Josefina’s faith was important to her. She was a member of the Highland Park Foursquare Church for many years.
Josefina enjoyed traveling with her daughter, son-in-law and grandkids. It was a chance for her to experience new places and new things with her loved ones. Some of her favorite vacations included trips to Florida, Las Vegas, Mexico, Monterey, and Sedona.
Josefina was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. Over the years, her favorite pets were her beloved parakeets. In her later years, she became fond of her daughter Rocio's dogs, Chiquita and Marley.
When Josefina’s retirement finally arrived in 1996, she was well prepared. In retirement, she found new pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren and eventually her great-grandson. Even in retirement, Josefina continued to stay in touch with her old friends, sometimes spending hours on the phone like a teenager.
Josefina passed away on September 16, 2022 in her beloved home in Los Angeles, CA. She is survived by her children Rocio, Maricela, and Raul "Huero"; her son-in-law Bernie; her grandchildren Cynthia and Alex; her great-grandson Lorenzo.
Simply stated, Josefina was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Josefina leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Josefina Ochoa Herrera.
