Luis and I worked together at LAUSD for many years, and I will always be grateful that our paths crossed.

Around 7:45 a.m. on April 14, 2023, I was sitting at my desk eating when I suddenly began to choke. Food had completely blocked my airway, and I could not breathe.

Fortunately, Luis was nearby. I later learned that my eyes were bulging and my face had turned purple. Although Luis was a little shorter than me, he didn't hesitate. He performed the Heimlich maneuver and was able to clear my airway and restore my breathing.

If Luis had not been there that morning, I honestly don't know if I would still be here today. This picture is from that day.

I am forever grateful for his friendship and for the life-saving act he performed without hesitation. My wife and children will always be grateful to him as well.

Rest in paradise, my friend. You saved my life, and I will never forget you.

B!!! I'm gonna miss you brother. Fun times when you lived with me for a minute. Most funniest thing you ever said was the day we lost that softball game. " Chale!! we didn't lose, they lost. We didn't even play. But we still having a carne asada." ALLIES for life. Go Eagles!!!
Hahaha!! J/k Beedee B. Go Broncos!!!
Love you bro.

Although, he was always running around fixing something, if he saw me, he'd always go out of his way to greet me with a handshake and a hug! We'd talk about how busy we were, laugh it off, and tell each other to keep grinding. We'd say goodbye with another handshake and hug. I'm going to miss his positive energy and big smile. R.I.P
