She was born September 12, 1949 to Patrick and Gerardine Frawley and resided most of her life in Los Angeles.
She graduated from Santa Catalina High school in Monterey, California and received a degree in English from the University of Southern California. She was a writer and journalist, working for several publications in New York and Los Angeles, most recently the National Catholic Register.
Mary Louise was a seminal figure in Los Angeles Republican Party. She was the Chairwoman of the San Fernando Valley Lincoln Club where she promoted conservative values through public engagement. She was an elected member of the Los Angeles County Republican Central Committee and a member of the California Republican Party.
Mary Louise volunteered on several elections, most notable, in her mind, was the 1993 election of Richard J. Riordan as Mayor of Los Angeles. She was appointed twice by Mayor Riordan, first to the Los Angeles Convention Center Commission and later to the Disability Commission. She was also appointed by then California Governor Pete Wilson to the California Commission on Alcoholism.
She was recognized for her work to have warning signs, now required by California law, posted in all establishments serving or selling alcohol, warning women of the dangers of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome should they drink while pregnant. The hard fought victory earned Mary Louise, and former Los Angeles Council member Elizabeth Snyder, high praise and recognition from State and local officials.
Mary Louise was a devout Roman Catholic. Her faith never wavered even during the darkest days of her illness. She saw her disease as a challenge and a blessing.
She is survived by her two brothers and four sisters: Dr. P. Joseph Frawley, Michael Frawley, Frances Swanson, Eileen Callahan, Joan Desmond, and Barbara Ross.
