November 25, 1979 – May 13, 2025
With heavy hearts and eternal love, we announce the passing of Nadia Gomez, beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished daughter, sister, teacher, and friend. Nadia passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, at the age of 45, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer.
Nadia was born on a Sunday, November 25, 1979, at Los Angeles General Medical Center in Los Angeles, California to Francisco and Sandra Leon. Nadia was the eldest sibling, followed by her brother Francisco and sisters Denise and Yvette Leon. Nadia grew up in the community of El Sereno where she attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Rose Hills School for her elementary and middle school years, and it's where she met her best and life-long friend, Monique Flores. She attended Sacred Heart High School where she would meet another close friend of hers named Nadine Aceves.
From a young age, she radiated warmth, strength, and compassion qualities she carried throughout her life. She pursued her passion for education and completed her bachelor’s degree and master's degree at California State University of Los Angeles (CSULA). This is where she met some of her closest friends, Nancy Delgadillo, and Rocio Castañeda and they would stay in contact with each other to share stories about their families and to support each other. Nadia was accepted to a dual program called the Model Teacher Education Program (MTEP) where she earned her bachelor’s degree in child development and Preliminary Credential simultaneously. In 2003, she earned her master’s degree in Bilingual/Multicultural Education in the Elementary Classroom and teaching credential concurrently.
Nadia dedicated her life to teaching, serving as an elementary teacher with LAUSD for 22 years at Nevin Avenue Elementary. She was a loving and compassionate educator, always looking out for her students' best interests and making sure they had everything they needed to succeed. Her classroom was more than a learning space, it was a haven of creativity, care, and inspiration. Her students and colleagues remember her for her patience, her vibrant spirit, and the joy she brought to every lesson. One of her close’s friends at Nevin was Guille Rubalcaba. Nadia taught both of her children, and they would lean on each other for support. She had many friends at Nevin who she held dear to her heart.
Nadia met her husband Walter Gomez at Sacred Heart’s High School prom night in 1997. They both remained in contact after high school and began to date in the early 2000s. On June 27, 2003, she married the love of her life. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love and dedication to their family. Nadia was a proud and loving mother to their three children, Arianna Gomez, born October 28, 2003, Jovanny Gomez, born January 26, 2007, and Christian Gomez, born April 17, 2010.
She loved her children deeply and found joy in watching them grow, smile, and accomplish everything they set their minds to. Her greatest happiness came from seeing them happy, thriving, and proud of who they are.
She is survived by her husband and children, her parents, and siblings. Nadia also leaves behind a large extended family and a community of friends, students, and colleagues who were deeply touched by her life.
Nadia’s courage, strength, laughter, and generous heart will live on in all who knew her. Her impact was profound, and her memory will continue to inspire.
