Nancy Lee Mullen was born on February 15, 1951 in Hastings, Nebraska. Nancy’s family moved to California in 1956 and established roots in the city of Alhambra. Nancy grew up with the love of her parents and siblings. Nancy started school at Emery Park Elementary and then graduated from Alhambra High School, class of 1969. Nancy met many of her lifelong friends at Emery Park and AHS. After high school Nancy embarked on a career in healthcare administration, working for many hospitals and healthcare agencies in Southern California. Nancy continued to make lifelong friends during her career in the healthcare billing industry.
Becoming a mother was one of Nancy’s many joys in life. She instilled strong qualities in her son, showing dedication, love, and hard work as young single mom. Nancy was involved in her community, serving in various volunteer roles and ultimately as President of West Alhambra Little League where she built lifelong bonds and friendships. She displayed kindness and compassion for the families within her community.
Nancy’s ultimate joy was becoming a Nana. Her grandchildren brought much happiness to her life. She loved caring for them, seeing them grow and flourish. She stayed active in their lives and returned to serving the community as a board member at Alhambra American Little League. Nancy was an avid baseball fan, loved watching the Dodgers, and cheering on her grandkids and their teammates during their sporting events.
From an early age, Nancy enjoyed listening to music. One of her favorite bands was The Beach Boys. Nancy enjoyed dancing and singing, even if she was not the best singer in town. She sang and danced like no one was watching! Nancy was so thrilled that her grandchildren were involved in school bands and loved watching them play. She loved her nephews and niece tremendously, being their aunt meant a lot to her and she enjoyed seeing them grow up and thrive. Nancy showed a lot of love to her extended family and friends that became part of her tribe. During her final months, she would illuminate while sharing stories about family/friends, watching videos of her grandson’s musical endeavors, and hearing about her granddaughter’s pursuit of higher education in the healthcare field. Nancy often voiced how proud she was of her family; she loved them dearly! She was thankful for long chats with her BFF and social gatherings with friends. This circle of life brought her much happiness.
Nancy passed away on September 9, 2024 at the age of 73 at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, California. In her final hours, her family played Beach Boys songs and church hymns to bring her peace. Nancy was taken into care by Funeraria Del Angel Lincoln Heights and cremated on September 22, 2024. Her remains are with her son and grandchildren at their home in Alhambra. She is survived by her siblings, son, grandchildren, family members and many lifelong friends that loved her dearly. Nancy was known as a loving and caring soul. She had a fondness for koala bears, dolphins, panda bears, and gnomes. She is now reunited with her parents, longtime partner, and dear friends that passed away too young. Our angel Nancy is now looking over us.
