

Phillip Lewis Williams passed
away peacefully on
November 18, 2012 after a
wonderful life of 90 years. He
was a resident of Pacific
Palisades for over 50 years
and was a devoted husband
to his beautiful wife, Jane and
great father to his four children.
Phillip was born in St. Louis,
Missouri in 1922 where he
attended St. Louis Country Day
School. He earned his BA from
Harvard College and MBA from
the Harvard Business School.
He served as a destroyer officer
in the US Navy during World
War II and the Korean War.
He served on the USN Dortch
from 1943-1945, which saw
action in the South Pacific at
the battles of Iwo Jima and of
Leyte Gulf and was in Tokyo
Bay for the surrender of
Japan. As a naval reserve officer,
he was called back to serve in
the Korean War. Phillip began his
business career with the
Owens-Corning Fiberglass
Corporation from 1948 to 1959.
After serving in management
positions in New York and
California, he joined The Times
Mirror Company in 1969 from
which he retired as
Vice Chairman in 1993.
He was a leader in the business
community and in his many
philanthropic endeavors.
One of his greatest joys was
mentoring others and seeing them
achieve their goals. He lived life with
honesty and integrity and loved
his family more than anything in the
world. He will always be remembered
by his family and friends for his
sense of humor, generosity and
pursuit of fairness in life.
He is predeceased by his wife,
Jane and is survived by
Margaret (Alan Sandorf), Fred Williams,
Jim Williams and Diane (Sandy Freeman).
He is further survived by his
grandchildren, Steven Sandorf,
Gary Sandorf, Jeff Sandorf,
Leslie Lohelani Abrigo and his
great-grandchildren, Olivia Sandorf,
Ashley Sandorf and Lucas Sandorf.
He will be greatly missed by everyone
fortunate to have known him.
A memorial service will be held
on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at
11 AM at Pierce Brothers Westwood
Village Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers,
charitable donations can be made to
