Sheesh! It’s New Year’s Eve (12/31/2025) and I’m watching the Cotton Bowl. My conversation with hubby turns to my wonderful memories of working concessions at the LAColiseum and the Rose Bowl. Then I told him all about Richard Aller and what a gift he was to me and many other Compton HS Students. I still remember the animated classroom debates about democracy and communism. About capitalism and socialism. Lifelong, meaningful debates. Thank you Mr Aller. Continue to RIP ❤️🙏🏽

Loved this guy. Honored to have been indoctrinated into his thinking on Dr. Fager. Best Peanut Man ever. Compton High forever.  

A true Compton High O/G! I first knew him as Mr. Aller, the teacher. Then I knew him as Coach Aller. In his raspy voice as I went up for my jump shot he would shout, "EXPLODE!" I also knew Coach Aller as The Coola-Coo man. I would see him at ALL the sporting events doing his thing and employing young people from the community to help set them up for financial success. What a character! What a great guy! What a professional in every aspect of life. Coach Aller will always be a Compton legend.

Mr. Aller was a wonderful teacher.  He had a passion for his students that I had never experienced.  He will be greatly missed and I am so sorry that I wasn't able to attend his service and express my sorrow and respect to his family.  Honor his memory

I want to share my experiences at the University of California at Los Angeles.

Mr. Aller was my economics/government teacher at Compton High School (Class of 86).
He was an awesome teacher and person who cared about his students in learning. I remember how he used to run in the mornings and at lunch time everyday. He always encouraged us to exercise and eat healthy foods to live longer.  We lost a great teacher. Sorry for your loss and I will keep his family in my prayers.

Mr. Aller was  my  economics / history  teacher  in  Compton High  in 1989.  He gave me one of my first jobs selling  cool  a  coos  in the  L.A.  Basketball  Arena at least  for  one  day.   I remember  the  date  i  was  in  his  classroom  because  it  was  when   the  Chinese Tiananmen Protests were  taking  place  and  he  commented   and  believed  back  then  that  the days of the Chinese Communist  Party  were  coming to an end, unfortunately  the  CCP  jailed / vanquished  the  leaders  of  the  Tienanmen  movement and  they  are  still  in  power.

Mr Aller was my economics teacher at Compton High in 1987, I remember him helping the class set up a company and teaching us how investments work. He would run around the track at lunch everyday! Mr. Aller assisted myself and a few classmates get jobs at Dodger Stadium selling Cool a coos. This was my favorite teacher and he shared birthdays with my mother

I met Richard on a chance late night stop on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. He was, of course, chasing the ultimate horse story. A year later we were sitting together in the grandstands at Santa Anita Park. 

I that brief year, and over hours of phone conversations,  Richard revealed the source of his optimism—his faith in Christ. 

It would be impossible to forget this good man. 

Richard and I collaborated on several magazine articles about Dr. Fager, and later co-wrote a screenplay outline that will make a great movie. I was told that this must be sent to a movie-agent to reach a movie studio or producer, but unfortunately Richard never went this route even though he lived in Southern California.
I would be delighted if one of his children might pick up the ball and deliver this outline to a movie agent, and I will forward this screenplay outline to you if you're interested.
   In any event, Richard was certainly an America original and I look forward to keeping his Dr. Fager campaign alive and living...

My Dad took me to my first Dodger game at the Coliseum before Chavez Ravine was open. Somewhere around 1962, I remember bags of peanuts flying over my head and coins and dollars being passed down the row of seats. I was 7. In my later years, being a cocktail waitress, I remember him folding the bills in half lengthwise and using his middle finger to hold them.  That’s how I carried my bills. I wish I could share the picture I have of us on his retirement day in 2007(? I think). 

I am very sorry for your loss. I believe he was quite a great person, wonderful father,and a very positive influence on all who knew him. May he rest in peace.  I always wanted to meet him and talk about Dr. Fager. I've watched his 4 minute tribute on YouTube many times. Did your dear father ever finish his book about Dr. Fager? I've tried to find it without any luck. I will remember the Aller family in my prayers.  Peace to him and his family,

My Dad was an amazing person. He loved life & he loved his family. Everywhere he would go, he would be a blessing to someone. He always started conversations with people wherever he was. My Dad was one of a kind. He showed me what it is to be a friend to people. My Dad worked hard all his life & he taught me that you can have all the money in the world but that doesn't bring you happiness. I still miss him so much, his memories will never fade away in my heart. My Dad was a humble person who stood up for the truth & what's right. He showed me what I should look for in a man through his example. My Dad loved the book East of Eden & always would refer to this quote: “It seems to me that if you or I must choose between two courses of thought or action, we should remember our dying and try so to live that our death brings no pleasure to the world.” Now more than ever do I understand this quote.  Every man dies but not every man lives.  & Boy did my Dad live. I will miss you Dad, I love you & miss you so much. 

Coach, first introduced me to U.C.L.A basketball in the summer of 1974. We worked out with the Bruin varsity. I later took this picture with Jamaal Wilkes who was at the camp several years later. Thanks Coach

Mr. Aller, affectionately referred to as Aller”, was often the light of my day at the Ventura Correctional Facility.  He had a way of making me smile.  I enjoyed his story about that racehorse that should have been listed as a champion as well as the times he shared his life stories with me.  Rest In Peace, my friend.

Mr. Aller, I always enjoyed your colorful conversations.  We talked basketball, coaching strategies, best players, best coaches and different approaches to the game.  What I loved the most is that our conversations always turned into life lessons that I could take away with me and use daily.  How to treat people, how to work to my full potential, how to see other's points of view and how to love others even when they may be difficult to love.  Mr. Aller thank you for your love for others that was always on full display in the most humble way.  You will be missed, however your legacy will live on through all the lives you have impacted.

Dear Reader,
  I  worked with Richard for many years at the Department of Juvenile Justice. During these years I became well acquainted with Dr. Fager, whom he considered to be the greatest athlete of all time.  
 Richard was always smiling and joking but I sensed that deep down inside he had been overcome with sadness and grief earlier in his life.  
 He counted his blessings though--that's for sure. His blessings were his children and he let me know every chance he got. He loved them with every fiber of his being! 
 May G-D be merciful with him.

Richard will always be "Richie" to me. It was my nickname for him and he loved it. Richard was a sweet, kind and funny guy. He loved people and he was loved by people. His sense of humor was infectious. I will miss his movie critic phone calls. He kept me up to date on the best movies at the theater.  Richie was my friend and  I will truly miss him.
