Richard passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2025, with his wife of nearly 30 years and their beloved dogs, Bella and Riley, by his side.
He began his investment career in 1967 with Kidder Peabody & Co. in New York, became a portfolio manager in 1972, and joined Stonebridge Capital Management in 1979. He held a B.S. in Business & Mathematics from the University of Connecticut and an MBA from Pepperdine University.
Dick was devoted to his career, working nearly until the end. He valued the markets, relationships, and serving clients with compassion, clarity, and unwavering fiduciary care.
Beyond work, Richard had many passions he embraced wholeheartedly. He loved photography and the craftsmanship behind cameras, had a deep appreciation for fine watches, and remained a lifelong basketball fan, proudly supporting UCONN. He enjoyed cooking, often sharing favorite dishes, and traveling, especially to Florence, Italy. Curious and well-read, he could speak thoughtfully on almost any subject.
At Stonebridge, he and Debra met and built both a life and a legacy together, working side by side for nearly 50 years as they grew the firm and earned the trust of generations of clients through their steady counsel and thoughtful planning.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Evelyn Barrett, and his sister, Cynthia. He is survived by his wife, Debra; daughter, Christopher; extended family; and many friends, colleagues, and clients who knew him as both mentor and friend.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
