

Virginia Del Rio-Davis, 89 Virginia died peacefully at home in South El Monte, California on June 22, 2016. She was born on April 1, 1927 to Zacarias Escalante and Rita Lara Escalante in Winkelman, Arizona.She moved to Los Angeles, California from Tucson, Arizona in 1943 to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a professional typist. When she was a child her mom would ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” her response was not one she could express in words at her young age, but with the movement of her fingers, mimicking the motion of typing onto a typewriter. She enjoyed a long and successful career at Pacific Bell; she started as a Switchboard Operator in 1962 and retired as an Executive Assistant in 1990. She made many life-long friends while pursuing her career. Virginia was a devout member of Holy Family Parish in Pasadena and lived a fulfilling and charitable life. Virginia contributed to many Charitable organizations ranging from St. Jude's hospital to many Veteran and Catholic organizations. Her passion for travel lead her to explore the Great Wall of China, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Her most rewarding explorations of the world were her many Pilgrimages to the Holy Land. Virginia was a self-made woman of faith, tradition and values, her love and loyalty to her family afforded her a life filled with love, honor and respect.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, William H. Davis; sons, Richard Almond and Daniel Garcia; daughter, Margo Teresa Garcia; five brothers and three sisters.She is survived by daughters; Diane A. Orozco, Rachel T. Morrow, and Palmira E. Aguilar; sons; David Del Rio and George Del Rio; one sister, Genevieve Paez; twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Calvary Funeral Home and Mortuary, 4201 Whittier Blvd., Los Angeles, California. Rosario, Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 6:30pm-8:00pm; Mass and entombment Friday, July 1, 2016.
