Barbara was a remarkable woman of strength, determination, and heart. Life asked much of her from an early age, and she carried those experiences not as burdens, but as the foundation of the resilience that defined her. She was spirited and direct, meeting life with grit and hard work. She was fierce and independent, and had an unwavering devotion to the people she loved. For more than fifty years, Barbara called California’s Central Coast home. She built a career in the electronics industry, earning the respect of colleagues through her detailed work, strong work ethic, and made long-time friends along the way. But work was only one chapter of a life lived fully.
Barbara embraced life at every age. As a young woman, she spent time at the roller rink, and yes, she even skated backwards, no less, and with style, of course. She never allowed life to be defined by limits; she beat bone cancer in her 70s, rode mountain bikes in her 50s, and traveled with friends to Victoria Island, Ireland, and Jamaica. She welcomed new experiences with her adventurous spirit.
She was also an avid reader, devouring nearly five books a month, and was known to secretly put up bunny ears in group photos or drop the “F“ word when appropriate. Retirement did not slow Barbara’s pursuit of learning. She took up the ukulele, began painting, and remained active through aqua aerobics and weekly exercise Zoom classes.
Many evenings were happily spent immersed in her beloved British crime dramas. Whether trying something new or savoring a quiet routine, she approached life with the same adventurous spirit that marked every chapter of her life. She had a presence that brightened any space, a smile that welcomed strangers, and a friendly wave to let you know you were accepted.
Above all else, Barbara cherished her family deeply. She was devoted to those she loved and found her greatest joy in the people around her. She is lovingly survived by her partner Jim, daughter Amanda, son Michael, brother Chuck, beloved cat Benni, cousins, and many dear friends whose lives were made brighter by her presence.
She will be profoundly missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in peace.
