

Dale Gordon passed away quietly in his sleep on Thursday, May 29. He was 89 years old. Dale was born in Caldwell, Idaho to Wayne and Margaret Gordon. After several moves they settled in Salem Oregon. After high school he attended Oregon State University for a short time before enlisting in the army in 1942. He served his country in WWII while stationed in Europe and England before being honorably discharged in 1946.
Dale married Vivian Bates in 1948 in Caldwell. They lived in Santa Barbara while Dale attended the Brooks Institute of Photography and moved back to Salem for a short time before moving to San Luis Obispo in 1956. He was employed by Cal Trans for 30 years, retiring in 1986. Dale loved Idaho fishing each summer when he would drive his family to his hometown to visit relatives. He was a talented woodworker, constructing cabinetry and furniture and refinishing antique furniture. In his later years he also enjoyed playing golf with his Cal Tran's friends and coworkers.
Dale is survived by his beloved wife, Vivian, of 66 years, their three children, Rich Gordon of Paso Robles, Cindy (Rich) Breitmeyer of Davis, and Melinda (Sheldon) Miller of Los Osos. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Amy, Keith, Kristin and Kelly as well as his three great grandchildren, Ashlyn, Jordan, and Mason; his brother Leon of Salem, Oregon and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Los Osos Valley Mortuary with a graveside ceremony to follow. A reception will be held at Dale's daughter's house in Los Osos after the services.
