David Paul Safina

October 8, 1957June 15, 2020

David Paul Safina, 62, passed into his Savior's presence on the night of June 15, 2020 after battling a rare cancer for 5 weeks.

He lived his favorite scripture to the fullest: "make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: you should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody." 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

Dave was a private man who took care of everything and everyone around him. He was a gentle giant who did not require accolades because he worked to please the Lord and provide for his family.

He loved to work with his hands and held passion for carpentry; building houses and crafting many masterpiece projects in his workshop.

His family was his greatest joy to who he provided much wisdom, prayer, and love. A true man of integrity and work ethic, Dave was also a loving and devoted husband to the love of his life, Kim, and was proud to be a father and best friend to his two sons, David and Michael. He took delight in his daughters-in-law and grandchildren.

Dave was born in Merced, California, the only son of David C. and Loyce Safina. Dave grew up in Tulare, graduating from Tulare Union High School in 1976. Dave received his BA from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1980, where he met his wife Kim. They married in 1982, making their home in the central valley and raising their two sons in Exeter, and Cayucos in the summers. In 2007 Dave and Kim moved to the central coast to Los Osos, where he could build a castle for his wife.

Dave was a director and producer for KMPH Fox 26 before starting his own production business, Video-Vision. He became and appraiser SRA co-owner of Centurion & Associates and owner/board member of Kaweah National Bank, Tulare County Mortgage, Aliamo Properties, Tulare County Construction, Diamond Real Estate, Pacific Ridge Real Estate and D.S. Development, as well as being successful as a day trader.

Dave loved studying Christ Jesus' message and attended Rock Harbor Christian Fellowship in Morro Bay, where he was always seated in the very back.

Dave is survived by his wife Kim, married 37 years, his sons David (Alyssa) and Michael (Taylor), and grandchildren: Millie, David Sebastian, and Gwennie (due in September). Dave is survived by his parents David C. and Loyce Safina, Sister Cheryl (Bruce) Bickel, brother-in-law and best-friend Thad Reece (Karen), nephew William, mother-in-law Mary "Grammoo" Reece, niece Lindsey Bickel, and nephew Matt (Noelle) Bickel.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Thad Reece Ministries (882 East Worth Ave., Porterville, CA 93257) and Rock Harbor Christian Fellowship in memory of David Paul Safina.

A private family and close friend graveside service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020 at 1:00 pm in Cayucos Cemetery.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020 at 2:30 pm at Rock Harbor Christian Fellowship in Morro Bay, California (1475 Quintana Road, Morro Bay, CA 93442)

To the Safina family,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of David. As a cousin, I had not seen him in many, many years. I greatly regret not knowing the man he became, as well as his family. Please accept my sorrow at his passing, as well as prayers for healing during these sad times.

Kim and Safina Family,
I am so sorry for the loss of David. David’s mom and dad have been ministry partners of Patty and me as we have been serving with Cru for 42 years. I remembered David from High School and then of course he had been a ministry partner of ours as well. The Safina family has indirectly been used to reach many students, faculty, athletes around the world for Christ. As I think of David I am reminded of words like caring, hard worker, and committed. He has been a part of a legacy and is now leaving his legacy with those he has touched. Now he is with the only one who offers hope- His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Our family is praying for Kim and family. Love, Marc and Patty Rutter

I met Dave in 1973 when I became a Scout Leader in Troop 251 in Tulare. At that stage of his life he was smart, personable and as some of you have inferred, a little impish.

He lived a wonderful life as a strong Christian and he never failed to greet me as "Mister" Burckhardt when our paths would cross in later life.

Kim and Loyce and Dave Sr my heart goes out to you.

To the dear family of David Safina. I knew him from a very young age and he always remained friendly and respectful every time we met. He left a legacy for all of us to admire. Heaven gained a special man. Blessings and comfort to all of you. Leona

"Dave and Kim have lived across the street from us for almost two decades. Guy and I treasured Dave's friendship; he always had a smile and an immediate interest in whatever project Guy was working on. He was a thoughtful listener and one could discuss any subject with him; Guy, Gary, and Lee spent many hours discussing politics, their values, the stock market, their childhoods, cigars, and the Central Coast in our backyard. Dave's warmth and caring embraced us all. His extraordinary talents in woodworking from building his home or making small wooden boxes are beautiful. We treasure the carvings that he made for us. And above all, Dave's love for Kim and his pride in his family defined him. The world has lost a wonderful man. We will miss him so much. Sending our love to all the Safinas,
Libbie Agran, and Guy Fitzwater"

Dave will always live with us in our hearts! We will miss the fun and the serious discussions. A great man left us way too early. May we all meet again by a lake in Heaven!

Dave was an incredible human being. I have always been proud to be part of his family through my dear cousin and friend Kim.
One of my fondest memories is of him assuming his position as Barista at their lovely home in Los Osos. All I had to do was sit at the coffee bar and wait to be served the most incredible Espresso...always just the way I wanted it. And as much as I wanted!:)
Dave was a Servant Leader...like our precious Lord. A man of wisdom and integrity and most importantly kindness.
I know he is still with us in spirit and I know where he resides now, and although our hearts are broken, this gives me comfort...and we will see him again. I love you Kim, and I loved Dave. God carry you and bless you. Always, Eileen

While I’m so greatly saddened by the news of Dave’s passing, immediately I think of all the smiles he brought to my face, and so many others. What a instigator. There was never a dull moment when David was present. My prayers and thoughts are with you, Kim and family. Strength for the coming days❣️
