Eileen McGrath O'Melveny passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, at the age of 87, with her daughter Janice and sister MaryJo by her side. Born in Los Angeles, the eldest of four children, Eileen was the kind of big sister who looked after everyone and who carried that warmth through every chapter of her long life. She met the love of her life, Richard O’Melveny, when she was just thirteen years old, and Dick cherished her until his death in 2015. Together they raised three daughters — Victoria, Sharon, and Janice — and Eileen's nurturing reach extended through the generations to her grandchildren Laura O’Melveny, Austin Kraff, Marie, Chloe, and Josiah Christensen, and great granddaughter Eloise.
Eileen was a lifelong lover of books and old Hollywood movies, with the stars of the big screen who never stopped shining brightly for her. She was stunningly beautiful inside and out, and she remained vibrantly social, funny, and personable to the very end — telling stories, sharing laughter, and delighting in the people around her even in her final days.
She is survived by her three daughters, her five grandchildren, her great granddaughter, her sisters Alice McGrath Cox, MaryJo McGrath, and her sisters-in-law Cecilia Bianchi McGrath and Frances O'Melveny Winser, and her nieces, nephews along with several lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard, her brother Tommy, her nephew Matthew, and her parents Emma and Thomas. She was, from her first days to her last, a person who loved fiercely and was protective of the people she loved. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten, however joy in the knowledge that she is free from the body that failed her and reunited with her beloved, will bring us comfort.
Services will be held on Monday, June 8th (her wedding anniversary) at 10AM at the Los Osos Valley Memorial Park located at 2260 Los Osos Valley Rd, in Los Osos. Graveside service will be followed by an indoor reception. Guests are asked to wear a touch of red in honor of Eileen's lifelong love of red lipstick and clothing.
