Biography:
Born in the Appalachian coal region, Jimmie was one of 12 children born to George Washington Hensley and Kizzie Delphia (Lee) Hensley. Jimmie spent his youth in the mountains of West Virginia and Kentucky where hunting and fishing opportunities abounded – as well a bit of adventure running moonshine!
In 1942 Jimmie joined the war effort enlisting in the US Coast Guard and was stationed in California. His final duty station was in Morro Bay where he met and married his wife in 1943 in San Luis Obispo. Following his honorable discharge from the military in 1945, Jimmie began laying down roots in San Luis Obispo where over the years he and Audrey raised 4 sons and supported their family by various employment and entrepreneurial work until retirement from his final position with the San Luis Coastal Unified School District.
In retirement Jimmie and Audrey have lived in Los Osos, California until his passing on March 24, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 71-years; sons Michael, Raymond, Gordon, and Timothy; 4 grandchildren Victor, Brian, Tanner, and Hunter; and 2 great Grandchildren Taryn and Erik.
