Julian "Benny" Benfield Julian "Benny" Benfield, who lived in Atascadero for 61 years, passed away on November 2, 2018 in Templeton at Vineyard Hills Health Center. Benny was 91 years old. He was born and raised in South Carolina. Benny was the second youngest of five children. Benny served in the Army and saw two tours of duty in Germany during WWII. He also served in the National Guard. He met the love of his life, Mary, at Atascadero Lake, CA. They were married for 61 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary Benfield; their two children, Marilyn McManus and Linda Benfield; his grandchildren, Jennifer Ringsby-Hackel (Al) and Erik Ringsby (Geneva); his youngest brother, Ernest Benfield (Shirley); and his sister-in-law, Carol Armas. Benny worked at Old Smokey Meats in Atascadero for many years. He started as a deliveryman and retired as a salesman. Benny was a simple man with a huge heart. He was always there for his loved ones and friends whenever they needed him. If you knew Benny, you were always in for a laugh from his jokes. He always had a twinkle in his blue eyes. He loved to fish, tend his garden, and loved his cat, Bobo. Benny is preceded in death by his mother, father, two brothers, and his sister. No memorial services at his request.
