Tina was born on April 30, 1934, in Pico, Azores, to Manuel Peixoto and Maria Conceicao Pereira. She spent her early years in the Azores before moving to Hanford, California in 1959. It was there that she met the love of her life, her soulmate, Edward Alves. They were married on June 25, 1961, and together built a beautiful life, raising three children. In 1990,
they settled in Morro Bay, California, where Tina continued to create a warm and welcoming home for her family and friends.
Tina was a hardworking and talented woman. She worked for over 10 years as a Yarn Twister at Candlewick Yarns and also shared her love of cooking as a chef for a U.S. Senator. No matter where she worked, she brought dedication, pride, and heart to everything she did.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—cooking for loved ones, fishing, playing cards and dominoes, shopping, crocheting and knitting beautiful scarves and blankets, and, most of all, making people laugh. Tina had a way of bringing people together. She was caring, loving, and incredibly generous—someone who would truly give you the shirt off her back. She was also strong-willed and stubborn in the best way, always standing firm in who she was.
Tina will be remembered for her constant smile, her unforgettable stories, and the way she made everyone feel at home. Her strength, independence, and deep love for her family left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Vieira (Steve), and her son, Manuel Alves (Anna), along with her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Joseph Alves; her son, Edward Joseph Alves Jr.; her parents; and her 10 siblings.
Tina lived a long and beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and resilience. Whether it was memories of fishing together, playing games, or receiving one of her handmade pieces, she leaves behind a legacy that will be treasured forever.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 9, at St. Timothy’s Church in Morro Bay. The Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park in Los Osos, with a reception to follow at St. Timothy’s Church.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
