September 21, 1932 - September 28, 2025
Marta Carrillo Zanghi passed away on September 28, 2025, at the age of ninety. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty- six years, John Zanghi, their children, Kristine Zanghi Jankovitz (Ted), John Phillip Zanghi (Cary) and Karen Zanghi Carruth (Steve), their grandchildren, Benjamin, Annie, and Ethan, her sister Dolores Carrillo and many nieces and nephews.
Marta was born on September 21, 1935, in Mexico City to Miguel and Elvira Carrillo. Her family moved to Whittier, California in 1939 where she attended St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School and Sacred Heart of Mary High School. She graduated from UCLA where she met her husband, John. They married on August 29, 1959, and made their home in Los Angeles. They were blessed with two children during their first two years of marriage and like many young couples lived from paycheck to paycheck. After welcoming their third child, some years later, the family moved to Burbank, where they lived for 25 years. After retirement, Marta and John moved to Cayucos, CA, a place they both loved and enjoyed for 23 years. Marta enjoyed being a part of the Cayucos/Morro Bay community meeting many new people in the Estero Bay Newcomers Club, the Estero Bay Republican Women’s Club, outings with the Scarlet Seaside Sisters, and regularly meeting with friends for book club or to play Mahjong, Bingo, Dominos, and Bunco. She loved her volunteer work at the Morro Bay Museum of Natural History where for many years she enjoyed welcoming visitors to the museum, and working with the wonderful staff, docents and other volunteers. The advancing years brought the couple to Atascadero where they enjoyed the change of each season.
Marta, had a love for travel, visiting every continent except Antarctica, and she enjoyed exploring and learning about the many countries and cultures of the world. But her greatest love was always and forever her family. In the last moments of life, she found strength to express her love for her family, her friends and the L.A. Dodgers.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of our beloved Marta is planned for 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park, Los Osos, CA.
