Alene Stumler Nolte Costello

Alene Stumler Nolte Costello, 79, Louisville, "Alene," "Mom," "Grandma" passed away Tuesday morning, January 4, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

She was born and raised in Saint Matthews. She graduated from Presentation Academy in 1949. Alene met her late husband, William Nolte, at a USO dance in 1951 . Together they moved to Jeffersontown and raised six children: Lisa Bolin, Michael Nolte (Bonnie), (Mike predeceased Alene), Terri Lipari, Pat Nolte Rota (Rob), Marla Bobrow (Bob), and Kathy Nolte. Alene later married Jim Costello who survives Alene, and they enjoyed 31 years together. Alene's passions were her family, friends, church, music, and dancing. She and Jim also traveled widely with their lifelong friends, Jean and John Klimcheck.

In addition to her children with Bill Nolte, Alene is survived by eight stepchildren: James, Mark, Sean, Matt, Mike, Sara and Nick Costello, and Carolyn Saghaian. Alene's grandchildren are Erica and Marlena Bolin, Adam Nolte and William Bobrow. She also has 18 stepgrandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2011 at St. Edward Catholic Church, 9608 Sue Helen Dr., with entombment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Hosparus or Alzheimer's Association .
