He was also a graduate of Manual High School, a World War II Army veteran, a member of Suburban Masonic Lodge #740, a member of Shively Baptist Church and a former member of Ninth & O Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and as a Sunday School Teacher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy and infant son, David.
Survivors include his daughters, Jo Ann Thomas and Sandra New (Jessie); grandchildren, Shari (Chris), Steven (TK), Susan (Robert), Cathy and Jessica (Chris); and 10 great-grandchildren A Celebration of Life Service will be held noon Monday at Evergreen Funeral Home with interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2-8 p.m. Sunday.
