Alvah Elizabeth Allen Wellinghurst passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on October 9, 1928, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Mamie Fulner and Henderson Bayne Allen, Alvah was a beacon of joy and laughter. Her life was a testament to the power of warmth and compassion in creating a well-lived life.
Alvah's early years in Louisville laid the foundation for a life characterized by her open heart and the ability to make lasting connections with those she met. Her radiant smile and generous spirit were her trademarks, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew her. Alvah's journey through life was shared with her beloved husband of 68 years, Edwin Earl “Eb” Wellinghurst, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her parents, her 11 siblings, and her beloved dog, Max.
Alvah and her loving husband enjoyed traveling together and playing golf with their many friends. They were lifetime members of Wildwood Country Club where they loved to spend their leisure time on the golf course and participating in the club’s events.
Throughout her life, Alvah was a friend to all, never hesitating to lend an ear or a helping hand. Her gentle approach to life's challenges was a comfort to those around her, and her ability to see the good in people was a gift that she gave freely and often. Alvah's legacy is not only in the lives she touched but also in the example she set of grace and kindness. Her legacy will remain alive through her family.
Alvah's memory will be cherished and kept alive by her adoring Goddaughters, “The Good Little Sisters”, Sandy Childers (Dannie), Patricia Larkin, and Brenda Firquin (Rod), along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Each of them carries a piece of her spirit, reflecting the lessons of kindness and gentleness she imparted.
The family wishes to express our gratitude to the staff at Nazareth Home – Highlands, Norton Audubon 6th floor East, and Palliative and Hospice Care for their loving support and compassionate care. We will forever be grateful.
