The world lost one of the truly good ones when Andrew Paul Amburgey, 34, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on October 4, 2025. He was endlessly funny, deeply loyal, and full of life; the kind of person who made people laugh, be at ease, and feel lucky to know him.
Andrew was perfectly balanced between grounded and adventurous – steady in his values, but always seeking joy in new experiences. He was witty, fun, and effortlessly charismatic, never missing a chance to make the people around him laugh. He cared deeply about the things that mattered to him and let everything else fall away. To most, he came across as calm and easygoing, but to those lucky enough to be in his inner circle, he was anything but detached – protective, outspoken, and deeply invested in the people he loved.
He was incredibly creative and had a knack for so many things; strength, art, style, and problem-solving among them. Whether he was coaching others to find their own strength or diving into a new project himself, he had a way of teaching people and learning for himself that made you want to try, too.
Andrew’s lifelong love of motorcycles was a defining part of who he was. Riding wasn’t about thrill or appearance – it was about connection, freedom, and that joyful feeling you only understand if you can name a bike’s make and model just by the sound of its exhaust. He learned to ride with his dad, and his first real bike – that he proudly rode to high school at fifteen – was a red 2006 Kawasaki ZZR600. Working on bikes brought him the satisfaction of solving problems with his hands, and riding kept him grounded in a community and friendships he held close.
The way Andrew lived encouraged everyone around him to focus on what truly matters; of course, prioritizing responsibilities, but not letting them drown him in monotony. He understood that to truly live meant to enjoy life with the ones he loved and serve anyone who was in need. Andrew always knew he wanted to be a dad, and already had so many hopes and dreams of what his little girl’s future would be. He would’ve taught her to lift weights, play tiến lên (Vietnamese poker), make fun of her mother daily, enjoy a good IPA (in 21 years!), be kind, love herself, and believe – like her dad did – in a God who is accepting and loving, without exceptions.
Though his time here was far too short, his impact on the people he loved, and who loved him, will last forever.
Andrew is survived by his wife, Ivey Amburgey, and their soon-to-arrive daughter, who will always know her father’s character through the people who loved him most. He also leaves behind his parents, Tracey Kircher (Amburgey) and Paul Amburgey, and his step-mom, Norma Amburgey; his siblings, Rachel Theiler (and Chris), Sarah Bradley (and Charles), Abigail Patrick (and Andy), and Patrick Dunbar; his grandmother, Lovelle Eastridge; his parents-in-law, Mark and Lauren Lawrence; his brother-and sister-in-law, Cole and Lindsey Lawrence; and his lifelong best friend, Shawn VanHoose (and the entire VanHoose family), along with countless friends who were truly his family. He is also survived by his beloved Australian Cattle Dog, Laney, who was always by his side.
A service celebrating Andrew’s life will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 2 pm at West Sixth NuLu (817 E Market St, Suite 101, Louisville, KY 40206) in the Marketplace Hall upstairs, with a reception to follow at 3 pm. West Sixth NuLu holds a special place in Andrew and Ivey’s hearts, as it’s where their community in Louisville first came together. Please note that Market Street will be closed for a street festival on Sunday – plan extra time for parking, which will be most accessible from Main Street.
In lieu of flowers being sent to the service, please consider honoring Andrew by supporting Ivey and their daughter’s future; this fund will go toward her childcare and education: https://www.gofundme.com/f/ivey-and-baby-amburgey
It’s unbearably unfair that you left the earth so soon. You’ve left a gaping hole in our hearts that will never be filled. We’ll never stop talking about you or how much we love you.
