Barry retired from Ford after 35 years of service. His passion was golf, passed down from both of his parents who were avid golfers. He shared his love of the game with his sons. He played in many golf leagues and enjoyed weekly rounds with his son Steve and his many golf buddies. Barry was a U of L fan, enjoying many Cardinal baseball, football and basketball games.
He is survived by his sons, Rick Schmidt (Monica) and Steve Schmidt (Denise). He is also survived by his granddaughter, Amanda, a brother, Paul Schmidt (Glea), his step children and many other extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 4pm - 8pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, and from 10am - 11am on Thursday, March 19, 2026 held at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park
