Beatrice Poulin Lose, who was known as Bea to her friends and Gaga to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully on July 6 at the Episcopal Church Home. Bea was born in either 1921 or 1922 —she always said 1922 because it made her a year younger than her birthday!
Bea was preceded in death by Herman Lose, her husband of 48 years; her second husband, Bob Showalter; her brother Larry Poulin and her sister Coco Tyrone. She will be remembered by her four children — Steve (Sara), Sue Baldinger (Tim), Bill, and Mike (Linda). She had 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. No wonder Christmas was so crazy! She will also be missed by her sister, Rita Schruddder, and her good friend and companion, Mike Metcalf.
Bea grew up, went to school and taught in the Scowhegan/Bangor, Maine area. She came to Louisville with Herman in 1946. She worked at Lose Brothers, the family business, for years and was active in the Lutheran Church, the Republican Woman’s Club and volunteered at Bridgehaven. She was involved with The Lonely Hearts theater group and danced, sang and sewed her way through many performances in many shows.
On July 31, a memorial service for family and friends will be held at noon followed by a life celebration party (because she always insisted on a party!) from 1:00 to 3:00 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven 4400 Bardstown Road. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of their choice.
