Benny Allen Guthrie Jr.

At an early age, he professed his faith in Christ and became a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, by baptism, where he remained a faithful member in spirit and lived his life according to the word of the "The Man Upstairs".

God truly blessed our family with this beautiful soul. Benny Jr. was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he always mentioned. He was an immaculate protector, provider, with the most caring heart while being completely selfless. He poured his love, great sense of humor, spectacular laughter, delicious meals and good times into us all. He was loved wholeheartedly from his first day in this world until his last.

Benny A. Guthrie, Jr. graduated from Central High School in 1967 where he excelled in wood shop, and mechanics which attributed to his lifelong love of cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Benny Jr.'s first marriage to Gail Guthrie was blessed by one daughter, Crystal Guthrie. Years later he was then united in Holy Matrimony to Cheryl Lynn Guthrie, who preceded him in death. Benny and Cheryl leave their children Akua Guthrie and Efia C. Guthrie to cherish their memories. Benny Jr. is also blessed to have two loved and adored grandchildren, Sadairia Efia Marks and Jalen Stratton.

Benny Jr., is survived by his beloved brother James Evans, Jr., (Louisville, KY), his best friend and brother-in-law Fredrick S. Hines, Jr., (Chesterfield, VA), as well as nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins and a host of family and friends.

In life we loved you dearly,

In death we love you still,

In our hearts you had a place

That no one else can fill

The Lord has called you home,

We believe He knows what's best,

So sleep on beloved, you are now at rest

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday 1:00 pm at Evergreen Funeral Home with entombment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 10:00 am Friday until the time of the service.
