Berniece Ruth Bush was born on August 4, 1934, in English, Indiana and entered the gates of Heaven on July 28, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orel and Madge (Brown) Guilliatt, husband of 61 years, William Matthew “Buddy” Bush; a son, Barry Eugene Bush and a sister, Marilyn Sue Anz.
Berniece retired from Resthaven Memorial Park after 20 years of dedicated service. She earned her degree in education and later pursued her master's degree. Berniece also was also a schoolteacher at Colgate Elementary School in Clarksville, Indiana.
She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an exceptional cook who found great joy in caring for her family. Some of her happiest moments were spent with loved ones at Rough River, where she treasured making lasting memories.
Above all, Berniece's greatest love was her Lord. She was a faithful and devoted member of Taylorsville Road Church of Christ, where her unwavering faith guided her life and inspired those around her.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Lawrence Bush and Gregory Allen Bush; a grandson, Gregory Allen Bush, II; a sister, Audra Atkins (James) and brother, William F. Guilliatt; nephews, Kenton Atkins, Toby Atkins, Jason Atkins, Justin Atkins and a great-niece, Kendall Anz.
A Celebration of Berniece's Life will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Arch L. Heady Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m.
Entombment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Kraft-Graceland Cemetery, 2778 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150.
Berniece will be remembered for her generous spirit, her kind heart, and her unwavering love for her family. She touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her with her warmth, compassion, and steadfast faith. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind, and her memory will be cherished forever.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested a donation in Berniece’s honor to be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
