Beverly B Wilson Vissing, was born February 20, 1937 and died April 22, 2026. She was the daughter of Jennings Duke and Mildred Swan Watson Wilson, and the widow of Frank “Sonny” Vissing. She was the formidable mother of Bobby, Cindy, Lisa, Mick and Rick. And a surrogate mother and confidant to many.
She was born during the 1937 flood, joining her brother, Wayne and sister, Lola. She went thru life as the slow steady current that guided the way for her family and friends.
Her strength and demeanor, evermore present as she aged, she inherited from her mother and faith in God.
She was stoic with a witty sense of humor. She was intelligent with common sense (something you don’t always see), intuitive, and instinctive. She had the luxury of never being paralyzed by indecision and she had the capability to read a room and people, and she was rarely wrong.
She was a “matter of fact” lady, who was also practical, protective, worrisome, loving and compassionate. She was strength and force at its best.
She loved a good strawberry rhubarb pie, a rolled oyster, stewed tomatoes and pickled beets, a Wilted Spinach salad, a good song she could tap her foot to (especially Frank Sinatra), and a good conversation with a pineapple milkshake.
Even though she was born and raised in Louisville, she had a strong heart tie to her rural roots. She always made a point to take us to Corydon (Mildred) and Brandenburg/Irvington (Duke) for family visits. We played in hayloft’s and with the farm animals and we definitely had some fantastic country food. She loved her aunts and uncles immensely.
She married dad at the age of 18 and inherited another large loving family, the Vissings. Dad‘s brothers and sisters quickly became our mom’s siblings as well. Mom & Dad had five children under the age of six by the time she was 28. She excelled at being the perfect wife, homemaker, and mother, along with the best sister, Aunt, grandmother and friend. She was the quintessential homemaker…and she loved it. She was a fantastic cook, she painted, she wallpapered, she was an upholsterer and a seamstress. She loved tending to her roses. She was a room mother and tutor at our school. She was a softball coach to Cindy and Lisa. She was a fantastic friend and entertainer to many. Above all she was a nurturing and loving mother to us and grandmother to Jeff, Chad and Amy and a doting great-grandmother to Lane, Will, Clara, Laramie, and Graham.
Even toward the end of her life, she always said she would have never changed a thing. It was always family and faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Frank “Sonny” Vissing; son, Robert “Bobby”Vissing; her parents, Mildred and Duke Wilson; her in-laws, Frank, and Edna Vissing ; sister, Lola (James)Davis; nephew, Terry(Shirley) Davis; Brother Wayne(Emma) Reese.
She survived by her children, Cindy Vissing, Lisa Falone, Mick Vissing and Rick Vissing; her grandchildren, Jeff, and Laura Falone of Birmingham and their children Lane and Will; Chad and Crystal Falone and their children Clara Rose and Laramie Skye; Amy and Justin Kroeger and their child Graham Everett.
She survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Sister-in-law’s Nita Weihe, Gloria Yengst and Janet Hartman; and brother-in-law Bobby Vissing.
We’d like to thank hospice, her caregivers, Dr Jeanne Thompson, Dr. Michael Driscoll, and Dr. John McConnell. They kept her a fine tuned machine.
