A lifelong resident of Louisville, Bruce grew up in St. Matthews and was a graduate of Waggener High School. A very proud alumnus of the University of Kentucky, he was the first in his family to attend college, earning a degree in telecommunications. He began his career in banking at First Security Bank in Lexington before spending 35 years at First National and National City Banks (now a part of PNC). A one-time runner, he was a devoted sports fan, cheering his beloved Wildcats, Yankees and (St. Louis) Cardinals to win after win.
One of Bruce’s leading characteristics was his kindness, which others felt in full force as soon as they called him friend. It is a testament to his thoughtfulness, and to his quiet humor, that he did not count the length of his friendships in years, but in decades. He is remembered warmly by his many friends, who collectively are one of the great riches of his life.
Bruce is survived and missed deeply by his wife of 41 years, Vicki, who cared for him lovingly throughout his illness; his daughter, Johanna Frantz Ellison and her husband, Matt; his mother, Joyce; his brother, Kent (Janet); his grandchildren, Rachael and Connor Ellison; and his two nieces and one nephew.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15th from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road. A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, October 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 8305 Nottingham Parkway.
