Ed was the youngest child of Karl and Esther Sundell. His parents immigrated to the U.S. from Sweden, arriving to Ellis Island and then eventually settling in Berkeley, California. While living in California, Ed played Semipro Baseball after high school and enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII; where he earned the rank of a First Class Staff Sergeant. He met his late wife, Amelia “Barbara” Sundell while in California; they ended up moving to Louisville in 1952 with their children. Ed opened a plantfor the Jacuzzi Brothers on 41st and Algonquin Pkwy. When the plant closed, he became a sales representative for the Jacuzzi Brothers; eventually retiring after 40 years of employment. Ed was also a member of the Okolona Optimist Club. He was a very accomplished man, but he will always be remembered first as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Along with his wife and parents; an infant son, Carl David Sundell and sister, Helen Selak have preceded him in death. Here to carry on his memory are his children, Linda Marie Ashcraft (Billy) and David E. Sundell (Kathy); grandchildren, Melissa Crippin (Curt), Jackie Renn (Matt) and Anthony Sundell, and his 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 3-7pm on Thursday, July 19th at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road. A funeral service in honor of Ed will take place at 7pm on Thursday, with a private burial taking place at Resthaven Memorial Park.
