Carole Jane (Wise) Hommel, 87, passed the morning of Thursday, June 27, 2024. She was born on February 17, 1937, in Louisville, KY, to her late parents, William Roy Wise and Elizabeth Lee Coy. She is preceded in death by her husband William David Hommel of Louisville, KY.
She is survived by her children; Karla H. Spencer (Charles) and William David Hommel Jr. (Carol), brother Roy William “Bill” Wise Jr., 5 grandchildren; Amber Kelman (Greg), Madison Spencer, David Paul Hommel, Jeannette Hommel, and Theresa May Hommel, and 2 great-grandchildren; Zachary and Amelia Kelman.
She was a 1955 graduate of New Albany High School. Two months later she married her high school sweetheart, Dave, and they were married for 60 years. After she had children, she worked several part-time jobs including real estate, Avon, and school secretary. She and Dave traveled and lived in many cities due to his job with U.S. Naval Ordnance Station.
When they weren’t spending time with family, they enjoyed socializing and had many friends. They started a local gourmet club which was featured in the newspaper. They also started a square dance club in the 1980’s called Levi’s and Lace, and they worked on a committee to bring the National Square Dance Convention to Louisville in 1983.
The family would like to express special thanks to her caregivers: Kim, Stephanie, Trish, Donna, and Tanya. Appreciation also goes to her cousin Mary Lee, who devoted weeks at a time visiting and caring for Carole.
A memorial visitation will be held on July 13, 2024 from 11:00am to 3:00pm at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village Funeral Home, 7410 Westport Rd, Louisville, KY. 40222. A Celebration of Carole’s Life will take place at 3:00pm following the visitation. The family requests bright colors be worn.
