A native of Siluria, Alabama, she was born January 14, 1936, to Paul and Juanita Johnson Posey.
Carolyn earned an undergraduate degree from Alabama College, now the University of Montevallo, did graduate study at the University of Alabama, and taught at her alma mater Thompson High School in Alabaster. Desiring to learn more about the Bible and deepen her faith, she moved to Louisville to study at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she earned the Master of Divinity degree. In Louisville, Carolyn had a distinguished teaching career at several public schools and after retirement taught refugees from Burma at Crescent Hill Baptist Church’s Hope Academy.
Carolyn was a dedicated member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church for 56 years and served on the Deacon Council, Church Council, and various committees through the years. One of her greatest joys was teaching her beloved ladies of the Agape and Harmony Sunday School classes. Her wise counsel and her willingness to help others were the fruits of an authentic faith she lived out.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her two sisters Harriett Beam and Donna Milloit, and her dearest friend and companion, Aaron Frier.
Surviving her are nieces and nephews Carolyn claimed and loved as her own children: Angel Harris (Eddie), Andy Garrett (Leslie), Katie Cochran, and Adam Cochran. She is fondly remembered by her great nieces and nephews: Adrianne Blackwood, Sy Garrett, Andrew Harris, Austin Harris, Taylor Lucas, Dylan McNutt, Douglas Scott, and Dustin Scott, and a multitude of great-great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Carolyn will be held at Crescent Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, September 6, at 11:00 AM followed by a gathering of friends and family. Memorial gifts may be sent to Crescent Hill Baptist Church, 2800 Frankfort Avenue, Louisville, KY 40206.
