She was born on June 7, 1948, in Corbin, KY to the late Robert Glyndon and Christine (Mahan) Hale. Cathleen will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who knew her.
Cathleen was a 1966 graduate of Male High School and continued her education by earning an associate’s degree at JCTC. Her steady determination and strong work ethic shaped a life marked by perseverance, practical wisdom, and a thoughtful way of meeting each day.
In 1974, Cathleen married Darell Bernard, and they shared 26 years together before he passed in 2000. Through life’s joys and losses, Cathleen carried herself with quiet resilience and gentle strength, offering care and compassion in the ways that mattered most.
Cathleen enjoyed Bingo and gambling at the boat, along with people and bird watching. She especially treasured time with her family, and her kind-hearted nature made others feel welcome—often as though they, too, belonged. Her warmth was matched by a light, humorous spirit that could ease a room and bring comfort without fanfare.
Cathleen was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, reflecting on a life that valued fellowship, service, and sincere regard for others.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Darell Bernard; her daughter, Sandy Mannell; and her siblings, Wayne Hale and Don Hale.
She is survived by her daughters, Tina Kennedy and Kelly Gabehart; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren and countless extended family and friends.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Memorial Park (4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218).
Visitation will also be from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am on Monday, September 28, 2026 at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
