Charlene L. Penny

She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Dr. William G. Penny and her parents.

Born on February 9, 1932 to Charles and Lena Shackelford, Charlene attended “Girls High” and the “University of Louisville” where she was a member of “Chi Omega” and graduated with a degree in education. She was an avid “U of L” fan her entire life.

She was a member of “The Eastern Star”, “The Louisville Women’s Club”, the “Kosair Shrine Ladies Oriental Club”, and various other groups.

Charlene leaves behind her children, Donald (Kathy), Jan Lawrence (Albert) and Joseph (Nancy), 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many other close friends she considered to be family.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Treyton Oak Towers for their love, care, and support over the last several years, especially the staff on the second floor.

Funeral service will be 12pm Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Evergreen Funeral Home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 4pm-8pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
