

Charles Patrick Guelda, 80, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 30th 2016 lovingly surrounded by his family. Born February 4, 1936, he is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Elanora Guelda, and four of his brothers, Paul, Joseph Jr, Edward, and Mickey. He is survived by the love of his life, his devoted wife of 59 years, Shirley Guelda; his seven sons, Stephen (Tamara), David (Marie), Daniel (Renee’), Thomas Sr. (Denise), James (Lisa), John (Paula), Paul (Marsha); and his daughter, Theresa Sanders (Charlie); 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; his brothers John Guelda (Betty), and Robert Guelda; his four sisters, Mary Gay, Martha Ray (Joe), Susan Millay, and Paulette Pate; and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat Guelda, Melton Hettinger, A.J. Hettinger (Betty), Fred Mike (Vickie) and Bruce Mike (Debbie). Charles was blessed with many extended family members that cherished him as a father figure. He was a graduate of Flaget, Class of 1954. Charles started his own business, Charles Guelda and Sons Plumbing, 40 years ago. He had a reputation for being honest, fair, and for conducting his business dealings with integrity. The business still provides a good living for his sons, extended family members, and many others. Charles loved his children; he delighted in seeing his grandchildren walk through the door. Charles loved his home. He loved hunting and fishing and spending time at his hunting cabin. He cherished time with his brothers and sisters. But most of all, Charles loved Shirley. Theirs was a true love story from day one. His greatest joy was his family and he left a profound impact on his children’s lives, exemplifying a life committed to his Catholic faith, to importance of family, and to a strong work ethic. Charles lived up to the commitment he made to himself as a young man, to always live life in an honorable and respectable way. His was a life well lived. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 4th at 10am at St. Rita Catholic Church; 8709 Preston Hwy, where Charles was also a member. Interment will follow at Brookland Cemetery. Family and friends will be received for visitation Sunday from 2-8pm at Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home; 8519 Preston Hwy. In lieu of flowers, donations may go to Pitt Academy for children with learning and communication disabilities. Donations may also be made to DeSales High School.
