

Charles Phelps, 87, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on June 16, 2026. He was born May 1, 1939 to the late Marcus and Blanche (Childers) Phelps, Charles will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude for a life marked by steady devotion, faithful service, and a kind-hearted generosity that touched family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him.
Charles served in the United States Army, answering the call of duty with the quiet strength and steadfast spirit that remained evident throughout his life. He later built a remarkable working legacy as the owner of Phelps Tree Service, Inc. for 50 years, a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and the care he brought to his community and craft. His leadership and commitment were further reflected in his service as Past President of the Kentucky Arborist Association and as a Lifetime Member of the National Arborist Association.
Beyond his professional life, Charles’s interests reflected a generous heart and a faithful enthusiasm for the things he loved. He was Past President of the Greater Louisville Koi & Goldfish Society, Past President of the American Koi Judges Association, and a member of Associate Koi Clubs of America—roles that spoke to his willingness to serve, his devotion to community, and the warmth with which he welcomed others into shared pursuits.
Charles was also preceded in death by his son, Dennis Phelps; grandson, Bain Schnur; great-grandson, Kaleb Phelps Clark; sisters, Geraldine Jones, Joesphine Beyler and brothers, Randall, Lloyd and Clifford Phelps.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carolyn (Philpott) Phelps; son, Paul Phelps (Lesley), daughter, Angela Corbett (Chris); daughter-in-law, Paula Phelps; granddaughter, Kimberly Phelps (Nikki) and grandson, Charles Phelps (Chaz).
Visitation will be held at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218, US, on June 24, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will be held at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218, US, on June 25, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
