Charles W. “Chicken Man” Watkins, 73, of Louisville passed away on Thursday September 30, 2021. He was a journeyman pipefitter for local 502 where he served as vice president and on the examining board, and was a delegate to the national convention for several years. In the late 60’s and early 70’s he worked with the pit crew for the Baines Brothers NHRA dragsters who won the 1972 Canadian Nationals. He was a 1965 graduate of New Albany High School and a Methodist by faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Ruth (Duvall) Watkins; and his aunt and uncle, Kenneth & Pauline Eicholz. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Charles A. Watkins; a grandson, Gaven Costello; a brother John E. Watkins (Mary); nieces, Sarah and Katie; his ex-wife Kathy Watkins who cared for him; and a multitude of cousins and friends and extended family. Funeral service for Charlie will be held at 10 am on Tuesday in the Southern Chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son, 3601 Taylor Blvd. with entombment to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-8 pm. Memorial gifts may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or the Widows and Orphans Fund at Plumbers and Pipefitters local 502.
