Cheryl Marie Hay

Cheryl Marie (Murphy) Hay, 71, passed away peacefully with her family by her side January 17, 2025. Cheryl is preceded in death by her husband Larry G. Hay of 47 years; parents Charles C. and Mary Ann Murphy; brothers Charles G. “Jerry” Murphy and Patrick J. Murphy. Cheryl is survived by her two daughters Jennifer “Jenn” M. and Laura M. Hay; sister Donna J. Murphy (Kevin) and several nieces and nephews.

Cheryl was a proud graduate of the class of ‘71 from Seneca High School. While Cheryl enjoyed working in several industries, her favorite included her time at WLKY in the advertising department as well as being the assistant to her entrepreneurial husband. Her most rewarding job was being a wife and mother. She was the heart of her family.

Cheryl loved her family (and many dogs throughout the years) immeasurably. She was always happy to lend a hand for anyone in need and would go above and beyond the call and would often surprise people with random acts of kindness. She was the best grade school room-mom and thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at her church and for her daughters’ many grade school, high school and club sports teams. Cheryl had impeccable attention to detail with everything she touched. She was an excellent cook and baker, took pride in her home and was a “hostess with the most-ess.”

Cheryl was a UK basketball fan, New York Yankees fan and was really into cars. You could find Cheryl hunting down the best bargains around town, working word puzzles, baking and delivering her treats to others. Cheryl was a kind, generous, family-centered person who was sharp as a tack! She was a supportive wife, mother and friend.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the Shamrock Foundation or the Kentucky Humane Society.
