Clyde Jerome Wilkins also known as “Sonny”, age 83, passed away June 13, 2020. Born in 1936 in Owensboro, KY, to his parents Clyde and Myrtle Wilkins, he married Rose Marie Hardy in 1959. Clyde loved his family, and was happiest when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was an entrepreneur, and owned several businesses during his life. He was involved in many things such as serving as a football and baseball coach and was later the President of St. Matthews Little-league. He was a Scout Leader, and also was elected Mayor of Rolling Hills Subdivision. Clyde was especially proud of his achievements with the Free Masons, achieving the position of Grand Master and was also a member of the Scottish Rite.
Clyde and Rose were married nearly 61 years and had seven children together. He is survived by his wife, Rose; his daughters, Jennifer Garland and Sharon Laster (Michael); sons, Dennis Wilkins, Greg Wilkins (Gretchen) Michael Wilkins; daughter, Stephanie Zahn (Larry), and son Dennis Gregory Wilkins. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Clyde is preceded in death by his best companion, his Golden Retriever, Blanche.
In lieu of flowers, donations may go to the Kosair Children’s Hospital.
A celebration of Clyde’s life will be conducted at 11:30 am on Saturday, June 20, 2020 in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd., with interment to follow at St. Michael Cemetery. Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 2-7 pm at the funeral home.
