A native of Louisville, David was a 1974 graduate of St. Xavier High School, a 1978 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law in 1981. He dedicated 43 years to the practice of law, spending the last two decades in private practice in Shepherdsville, KY.
David was known for his sharp wit, unwavering loyalty to Notre Dame and the Fighting Irish, and his love of music—attending dozens of concerts by Jimmy Buffett and the Eagles. Above all, he cherished his time with family, especially in his beloved role as “Poppy.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Patsy Carby, and his son-in-law, Joe Carp.
David is survived by his four children: Beth Freeman (Gabriel), Scott Carby (Karen), Leigh Anne Carby, and Laura Shircliff (Nick); his loving former wife, Paula Carby; his sisters, Debbie Thomas (Pete) and Diana Mayhall (Pat); seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28th, at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2141 Lancashire Avenue, followed by a private family burial at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27th, at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road
