David was a devoted husband to his wife, Pam Chesher. Together, they shared nearly 47 years of marriage and would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on October 13.
David never met a stranger and was truly one of the kindest souls you could ever know. Some knew him as the “Mayor of Planet Fitness,” while others may have considered him the “Mayor of the Neighborhood.” Wherever David went, he made friends. You could always count on a smile, a wave, a conversation, and probably a story or two.
David was a man of deep Catholic faith, which was an important part of his life and the way he treated others. He was a devoted member of Saint Stephen Martyr Catholic Church, and his faith remained a source of strength and guidance throughout his life.
David was also a hardworking and dedicated man who took great pride in his career. He worked for the GSA Motor Pool before beginning a long career with the United States Postal Service, where he dedicated 38 years before retiring. Over the years, David’s friendly nature undoubtedly turned many coworkers into friends, as it seemed to do everywhere he went.
David was a proud Trinity High School alumnus, but anyone who knew him knew where his true sports loyalty belonged — with the Kentucky Wildcats. His love for UK ran deep, and cheering on the Cats was simply part of who he was.
David was preceded in death by his father, Paul Chesher; his mother, Beaulah Chesher; his brothers, Stephen Chesher and Jeff Chesher; his sister, Joan Chesher Cooper; and his nephews, Kyle Aubrey and Josh Chesher.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Pam Chesher; his daughter, Heather Sowders (Jamie); his sons, Eric (Casye) Chesher and Brandon Chesher; his grandsons, Jacob Sowders, Noah Chesher, and Scotty Chesher; his brother, Mark Chesher (Connie); his sisters, Julie (Gary) Mohr and Nancy Aubrey; and his sister-in-law, Rita (Steve) Neeley; along with a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved deeply.
David’s greatest legacy will not be measured by titles or accomplishments, but by the people who loved him and the countless lives he touched simply by being himself. His kindness, humor, friendly nature, and unmistakable presence will be deeply missed, but the love, laughter, and memories he leaves behind will remain forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Trinity High School toward a scholarship established in David’s name, a lasting tribute to a school and community that meant so much to him.
In honor of David and his love for the Kentucky Wildcats, we ask that everyone attending the visitation wear UK apparel or blue and white as we celebrate his life and his beloved Wildcats — including their recent win, which we know David had a little something to do with.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the David B. Chesher '78 Memorial Scholarship by visiting https://www.trinityrocks.com/. There is a "make a Gift" tab on the top left that you can use. There is also a part on the giving page called "Notes and Designations" where donors can designate the name of the scholarship you wish to give.
Visitation will be held at on Thursday, October 8, 2026 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218.
A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 12:00 pm at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218 with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
