David was born to John and Audrey Elzy on July 29, 1943, in Louisville, Kentucky, where he lived his entire life. He attended Portland Christian School until 1962. He got his first job in 1962 as an auto mechanic at Hannah Motors.
David was an Auto Service Manager at Sam Swope Auto Group for several decades. His avid love for cars extended into his extracurricular life, watching races, working on his street rod, and never missing the Street Rod Nationals. He was an adept mechanic and was known to be able to fix anything auto. David also held the position of commissioned Kentucky Colonel, and has been an active member since he was inducted in 1982.
He leaves as his legacy two children: Norma Moulton (Wayne) and Carrie Elzy. He also leaves to cherish his memory three grandsons: Corey (Madelynne), Robbie, and Harrison Moulton, one great-grandson Ellis, and siblings Charmaine Dobbins (Jack) and Jack Elzy (Maryann). He was preceded in death by his parents John and Audrey Elzy.
David was an honest, kind hearted man with a penchant for witty humor. He could often be found sitting outside his garage talking to his beloved neighbors or spending time with his best buddy ‘Cat’. He was loved dearly by friends and family alike.
The visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 24 from 4-8 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road. The funeral will be held Friday, May 25 at Noon in the chapel at Arch L. Heady, with the interment immediately following at Resthaven Memorial Park.
