Dean Dishman, age 81 and 1 month, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He was a life long Kentucky Wildcat Basketball fan and loved to watch or listen to a NASCAR race on the radio.
Dean was preceded in death by his father, Roy Darrell Dishman, mother Maggie Reno Dishman, step-mother Uldean Albertson Dishman, sisters Vena Neal, Kathy Matthews, Lois Neal, Margaret York, baby sisters Linda and Connie, brother-in-law Frankie Davis. Father-in-law Spencer Evans, mother-in-law Nona Evans, sisters-in-law Christle Slaven, Mary Lou Anderson, Phyllis Evans, bothers-in-law Bobby Anderson, and Glen “Squirrel” Evans. Always apart of the family, son-in-law and grandchildren’s father Scott McFarland.
Left to carry on his legacy is his wife of 59 years, Betty Sue Evans Dishman, daughter Jackie McFarland-Redmon, granddaughter Tarah McFarland (Mark Covyeow), Cody McFarland (Kiersten), his “Princess” Kendall Jo McFarland and Mark’s son Camren Covyeow. Sisters Judy Arnett (John), Teresa Davis, Lisa Leffew (Danny), brother-in-law James Neal and many, many nieces and nephews. Dean also was the adopted grandfather of Tarah and Cody’s friends, who called him “Papa Dean”. They thought so much of him that he was given the honor of having 2 trucks named after him, “Papa Dean” and “Papa Dean, Jr.”
Dean was born in Wayne County, Monticello, Kentucky. He worked at his Dad’s general store and movie theatre in town.
It was the hard work and always wanting the best for Betty Sue and Jackie that created the dream of owning his own business.
Dean was the owner and operator of Dishman Construction Co., for 43 years. Any time he was riding down the road to anywhere he could point out a house or an apartment complex that he not only built, but had been the lead superintendant on the project start to finish. He was very proud of these accomplishments.
Many people have told us that Dean was the best man they ever knew and that he taught them everything they knew about construction and life. Always one to subtly give advise about business and how to live a decent and good life, Dean was still in contact with people that worked with him back 40 plus years ago.
Dean’s pride and joy was Kendall Jo. But next was his ’65 Mustang Fastback that he had restored. He had a garage built for out back for his collection. Also in his garage was the ’80 Mustang Cobra that he gave to Jackie on her 16th birthday. Something he wanted to do since she was born. A brand new car, a Mustang. One of the happiest days of his life he said often.
Dean and Betty Sue sold their house at Rough River this past year after being here since 1982. His many friends miss him and Betty Sue riding on their golf cart or hosting Derby parties and rides on the boat.
