Delphia Roberts

Delphia Roberts, 80, passed away on August 12, 2026. Born October 21, 1945, in San Diego, California, Delphia later made her home in Louisville, Kentucky, where her steady presence, devoted love, and enduring example shaped generations.

From an early age, Delphia showed a gift for English and writing—strengthened by her upbringing in a family of Czech immigrants and the responsibility she often carried translating for her mother. That experience helped form a lifelong reader and writer, someone whose diligence and quiet determination could be felt in all she pursued. As a young woman, she once dreamed of becoming a Marine Biologist, a hope redirected by the expectations of her time. She turned instead toward academics, where she found both challenge and purpose, especially in mathematics—drawn to the discipline of problem-solving and the satisfaction of working through what was difficult.

It was in those math classes that she met John Roberts, the love of her life and, in time, her husband and closest friend. Together, Delphia and John Allen Roberts built a life defined not by ease, but by devotion—sharing countless hours at the kitchen table reading the paper, working through math problems, and figuring out how to provide for a growing family. They may not always have had money, but they never lacked love, and they created a home marked by mutual respect, learning, friendship, and safety.

Delphia remained, at heart, a “beach girl,” shaped by her San Diego beginnings even as she poured herself into the work of education. She graduated from Long Beach University and later earned her master’s degree from UofL. For more than 30 years, she taught at Fern Creek High School, a testament to her work ethic and to the steady, inspiring way she showed up—day after day—for students, colleagues, and community.

Delphia is survived by her children, John, Chris, and Anna. Their partners, Kim, Joseph, and Lora; grandchildren, Sydney (Everette), Wesley, Fallon Delphia, Sloane, and Faryn; great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Sylo, and Oakley Delphia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Delphia; sister, Linda Sparks, and her deeply loved husband, John Allen Roberts.

Visitation will be held at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218, on August 19, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
