Don M. Carter, 59, was born in Louisville, KY on Derby Day, May 2, 1959. The excitement and festivity of Derby set the tone for his life, well into early adulthood, as he was known for the vibrancy of his personality, high fashions, and his love for beautiful cars. If you knew Don, for any length of time, then likely you could associate him with, or had at least heard him reminisce about “Gators” (fine men’s shoes), “Donuts” (whitewall tires) and any of the many Cadillacs that he had owned in his lifetime. Don indeed lived a lavish life in early adulthood, but all of that changed when he became a father. Don dedicated the last 20 years of his life to raising his daughter Destiny “Ching” Carter. He was wholeheartedly committed to fatherhood and took great joy and care in Destiny’s development. Don’s commitment to fatherhood was a testament to the type of person he was and the supreme love he had for family. He was a surrogate father, brother, and son to many and deeply impacted all whom he encountered. Don was also an artist, master painter, handy man and self-taught engineer. He loved animals, had a tremendous work ethic, a strong relationship with Christ, and a passion for family bonds. Toward the end of his life, he was most excited to reunite with Louis “Squirrel” Carter his father and best friend, and Mike ‘Munk Munk” Carter, his Dalmatian dog whom he considered a son/ best friend. Don will be sorely missed and cheerfully remembered by his daughter, Destiny Carter; mother, Loreda Carter; siblings, Louis Jene Carter, Harry Lee Carter, Roger Carter, & Scobie Newman; nieces and nephew, Melanie Bias, Thomisia J. Glymph, Jenell L. Glymph, Lauren C. Glymph, and Wesley W. Carter; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews and many lifelong friends. Don’s life was lived to the fullest, he will be remembered by many, with tears and joy, for years to come.
