

Donald was predominantly raised by his maternal grandparents, and graduated from Male High School class of 1951/52. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1954, stationed in post WWII Germany. He was always proud of his military service as well as his time in the Air National Guard.
He was a graduate of the University of Louisville with a certification in Transportation, BSC in business, and instructor in Logistics. After several years in Logistics roles with local employers such as Brown-Forman, Devoe Reynolds, and Cissell Mfg., Mr. Farris founded several companies in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Including Farris Transportation, Kentucky Container Service, KYFI Inc. and also DG Farris Custom-House Brokers in Ft. Myers, FL, most of which still exist and thrive today.
His many side interests include a lifelong love of philately, all things pertaining to history and world travel. Mr. Farris has many present and past friends and acquaintances that are far too numerous to mention. Most will remember him for his quick wit and mischievous demeanor, which remained sharp until his final days.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Brigitte Farris; children, Debbie, Donald Jr. (Dawn), Douglas, Sr.; step-son, Jay Newton (Stephanie); grandchildren, Douglas Jr., Benjamen, Zachary (Elizabeth), Amanda and Nathan; two great-grandchildren, siblings, Buck, Sharon, Bonnie (Bob), Tom (Carol); sister-in-law, Irmgard Fuller and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Glen.
The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the many staff members of the VA Medical Center from the E.R. to the I.C.U, and especially the Hospice unit, who provided dedicated care throughout his final days.
Memorial Services will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 9, 2016 in the chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. Visitation will be held from 12-3 PM prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
